A Knapweed flower with a bumblebee; the plant is a relative of the thistles, but without any of the thorny bits. Common enough along roads, it is a true native wild herb of the Highland hills. A Knapweed ‘flower’ actually consists of hundreds of tiny flowers (florets), all very much liked by bumblebees for their honey and pollen.
