A guide pointing out the way to the top of the assembly point. Thionail means gathering place, and on the flat climb to the top a deer's ass points the way. The beast walks calmly ahead of us for a while, looking back every now and then to make sure we don't fall behind. The clouds provide a quick alternation of sun and shade.
