Juniperus communis nana. The dwarf juniper, which manages to survive here in crevices despite the overgrazing. The nana added to the Latin name Juniperus communis suggests that it is a ‘true' subspecies; but probably the deviant shape is simply related to the limiting conditions in this environment – browsing deer possibly being the most important limiting condition: crevices are its refuge.
