Calm ptarmigan next to the track up the Forcan Ridge. A ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) and not a grouse (Lagopus lagopus scotica), that's always reddish brown. In winter ptarmigan are white with a black tail tip, in summer their underside is white too, but on top they are a kind of mottled brown. They have a red line above each eye.
